Sabbia Gallery would like to announce the very important acquisition by the Powerhouse Museum in Sydney of a major ceramic work by the indigenous artist from Ernabella Australia Derek Jungarrayi Thompson. The work titled ‘Wanampi Munu Nigntaka’, 2013 which was exhibited at Sabbia Gallery in March 2014, has now been included in the collection of this prestigious Museum, which holds one of Australia’s most comprehensive collections of decorative arts.This monolithic work which measures at two metres in height was created by the artist during his time in 2013 at the Big Pot Factory in Jingdezhen China. It will form an integral part of the Museum’s ceramics and indigenous collections and is a sign of big things to come for the Museum.Sabbia Gallery is thrilled that the work is staying in Sydney and will be accessible to thousands of visitors every year.Derek Jungarrayi Thompson is one of the new and inspiring generation of Ernabella artists.
