Maureen Williams – Allude

Sabbia Gallery is pleased to present ‘Allude’, by the internationally acclaimed Australian glass artist Maureen Williams.

Maureen is world renowned for her inventive techniques and has achieved significant artistic success with her glass sculptures and forms over the last twenty three years. She is as much a painter as a glass artist. Maureen expresses herself through abstract imagery, and combines these extraordinary paintings with traditional glass blowing, and most recently in casting. Her works are held in hundreds of private collections around the world, as well as some of the finest public collections, including the National Gallery of Victoria, Art Gallery of South Australia, National Gallery of Australia, Artbank, Die Neue Sammlung Museum, Munich, Germany, and the Meseu do Vidro da Marinha Grande, Marinha Grande, Portugal.

Familiar objects and formats are used to allude to references from the land and how we are placed within this framework. As we travel through our lives and the land, relationships form – between ourselves, the land, of us in the land, and how we have patterned and changed it, co-exist with and love the essence of it. This work makes reference to that travel and narrates the voyage through real and imaginary views – both of the land and ourselves within it. A sense of place, of being in the land that cannot be rationally known.
