Mark Making brings together nine Australian artists whose work feature diverse techniques that demonstrate their own unique maker’s marks. Each artist has a distinct, almost subconscious style that has become indicative of their work. In ceramics, the makers mark is heightened, as the form can feature the mark of the hand, as well as how it is then decorated.

Markings on vessels pre-date markings on paper and the surface decoration and embellishments to the three dimensional forms became essential to identifying the maker. Contemporary ceramics feature modern equipment and material which has lead to artists diversifying into specific techniques that best reflect their distinct viewpoint and help them to best express themselves.

This exhibition brings together the various techniques of ceramics including piercing, scoring, decal, glaze, inlay, sgraffito & drawing of which these accomplished artists demonstrate not just their skill with the medium but also simultaneously expresses ideas that are embedded in culture, history & landscape.
A beautiful exhibition that features some of the most interesting artists working in ceramics today. All are held in public collections and have perfected their chosen technique, and are known for their individual style of mark making.
