Sabbia Gallery is delighted to present Scripsit, Christine Cathie’s first solo exhibition in Australia. Christine has been exhibiting her beautiful cast glass works for the last twenty years, and her artworks have been acquired for inclusion in hundreds of collections worldwide.

In Latin, scripsit is an inscription indicating the identity of a person who wrote something. In my case, these forms are my identity.

I have been exploring a long-held interest in calligraphy – these works refer to the fluid stroke of a pen or the expression of a brush stroke. My aim is to capture that moment of movement that is formed by these strokes.

I am exploring how space can be defined through physical form – to catch and freeze those strokes in a moment of action, abstracting them by using the three dimensional and translucent qualities of the glass.
