On May 14 2013 the prestigious Pilchuck Glass School presented Klaus Moje with its Libensky/Brychtova Award for extraordinary contributions to the field of contemporary glass. The award was presented at the’Pilchuck Celebrates’ event held at the Chihuly Garden and Glass glass house in Seattle, USA. An internationally renowned studio glass pioneer working with kiln formed glass, Moje is the founding director at the glass workshop at the Canberra School of Art. Moje travelled from his home in Australia to Seattle to accept the award. This is an enormous honour and well deserved one for our warmly named ‘grandfather of Australian glass’. Previous recipients of the award include Pilchuck Glass School founder Dale Chihuly in 1996 and Seattle based artist Dante Marioni in 2009.
