2016 has been a busy year for Sabbia Gallery and many of our artists.
Our exhibition schedule this year has seen some extraordinary developments in the artistic practice of the exhibiting artists, resulting in beautiful solo exhibitions for all to enjoy. Many artworks found homes in private collections within Australia and overseas.
2016 has seen many public acqusitions for our artists. Most recently the artwork ‘Remain (in light)’ by Richard Whiteley from his August exhibition ‘Illumine’ was acquired for inclusion in the Toledo Museum of Art collection. Tim Edwards had his work ‘Line Drawing # 17’ from his October show ‘A Journal’ acquired for the Art Gallery of South Australia. Thomas Rowney with ‘Maelstrom and Incalmo Red and Black Bowl’ and ‘Maelstrom Black and White Oval Form’ and Clare Belfrage with ‘Pistachio and Blue Collection’ are now included in the Australian Catholic University Art Collection.
Sabbia Gallery held a very successful exhibition by Cathy Franzi titled ‘On the nature of things’ in October this year. She has been invited to join Sabbia’s stable of artists. We look forward to a new body of ceramics in the new year.
2017 will open with one of our most important exhibitions of each year, ‘Masters of Glass’. In 2017 the show, now in its 22nd year, is titled ‘Review’ and includes 19 of Australia’s finest artists. Keep a look out.
Have a wonderful Xmas. We look forward to seeing you again when we reopen in mid January.
