CASSARIA YOUNG HOGAN – Where Colour Lives

5 Dec 2025 - 24 Jan 2026

Sabbia is pleased to present this first ever solo exhibition by Cassaria Young Hogan from Ninuku Arts.

Cassaria Young Hogan was born in Alice Springs, Northern Territory. Her mother is Susan Young, though artists Amani and Stanley Young have looked after her since she was a little baby. Cassaria grew up in Kalka community and attended school in Pipalyatjara. An emerging painter, her works tell the stories of bush trips- digging maku and making cups of tea on the homelands of her grandfather Stanley’s country around the Wataru protected area, 100 kms southwest of Pipalyatjara. Cassaria won the Kings School Art Prize in 2022 and is part of a prolific artistic family, including her Grandfather Stanley, her father Timo Hogan and aunt, Carol all of whom exhibit nationally and internationally.

In 2020 she was one of 5 artists included in the in-augeral group of artists to translate their paintings onto glass blanks which were then blown into forms at the JamFactory glass studio, culminating in a group exhibition at Sabbia in late 2020.

“My paintings come from the things that make me feel alive, like when I go on bush trips with my family and all the kids. We dig for maku (witchery grub), look for tjala (honey any) and tinka (lizards), collect punu (wood), make kupati (tea) on the fire and tell each other stories. We laugh a lot when we are out bush with family. All that colour and movement is what I put into my work.

I also paint the everyday things that make community feel like home, especially the cars I see driving around. Mutuka Tjuta is about all those, like troopies, Commodores, buses, camel-mustering trucks, broken-down utes and bush-mechanic bits that I see around my place. “Mutuka Tjuta go round here – beep beep!” That’s how it feels, so that’s how I paint it.

This is where colour lives for me. I hope you feel it too.”
