After her sell out exhibition in 2025, Sabbia is pleased to present this highly anticipated solo exhibition by ceramic artist, Cathy Franzi.
Cathy Franzi is one of Australia’s leading ceramic artists, living and working in Canberra. Cathy’s work uniquely looks at the intersection between ceramic, botanical science and relief techniques drawn from printmaking. Botanical research is fundamental to the integrity of Franzi’s work, informed by her first degree in science and her ongoing engagement with botanists through volunteer work and during artist residencies. In 2025 Cathy was the recipient of the Lanyon Art Prize and was awarded highly commended for the Siliceous Award for Ceramic Excellence. In the same year Cathy was granted membership into the International Academy of Ceramics.
‘A View into the Blue’ is inspired by my experience of walking and botanising in the Blue Mountains while on an artist residency at The Old Schoolhouse Mount Wilson. The magnificent views over the deep gorges and mountains from the many lookouts, while also studying the detail of the surrounding flora, form the basis for a new body of work.
