Sabbia is thrilled to present this highly anticipated solo exhibition from South Australia’s incredible glass artist Clare Belfrage.
Clare has maintained a significant role in Australian Glass for over 35 years, with her practice documenting the rhythm and patterns found in the natural world. A consistent narrative that has remained in her current body of work. Clare has recently been a finalist in the Tom Malone Glass Prize and the 2026 Alice Prize. Throughout 2025 Clare travelled across Europe and the USA to deliver artist talks, workshops and participate in residencies. That same year a new body of work was acquired by the Australian National Gallery, which was added to the national collection.
For a long time now, my work has echoed and responded to the living patterns and rhythms of life both observed and imagined. I am increasingly drawn to momentous energy in the natural world. This is something of a shift. It is less quiet. Maybe I’m looking for reassurance.
Plant life including those grand beings, trees, and rock life, are telling their stories. So much to learn from. The stories holding the living of a life are there in the patterns and rhythms including the mess and power of aberration, interruption, tilt, separation and collision, luxuriant saturation, desiccation, layered rupture and slow settling.
