Clay Shift considers contemporary ceramic practice in Australia as a field defined by change, experimentation, and material inquiry. The exhibition brings together sculptural works by artists who engage abstraction as a means of rethinking clay’s possibilities, moving beyond traditional boundaries of form and function.
Across the exhibition, clay is treated as a mutable and expressive medium—one shaped through process, intuition, and risk. Each artist reflects a distinct shift in their approach to working with clay, expanding its material language through altered forms, layered meanings, and innovative methods. Together, these works position ceramic sculpture as a dynamic and evolving practice, attentive to imagination, transformation, and the continual redefinition of the medium.
