Reflexion: “careful or long consideration or thought”. [Collins English Dictionary]
For this exhibition I am reflecting upon the interplay between what we see and understand in the natural world and how that can be abstracted to colour and form which provokes the emotive response.
When viewing landscape my gaze is divided between seeing reality and seeing the abstractions it infers. Colour, form, line, texture, space and composition are within the formal elements of art yet my eye interposes them over the view and insinuates images that might be interpreted in glass works
I see fields of crops as though a patch of colour on a painting, the rows of vineyards as though lines on a drawing, shadows on the trunk of trees as though exercises in composition.
The moods of water have been a preoccupation for as long as I can remember. As paint might be progressively diluted and brushed across a page the ocean can appear as solid as land or as elusive as clear glass.
I am steered to reflect upon making works that hint at the fine line between reality and the elements with which it is structured. These works seek to be on the cusp of realism.
