Premio presents a curated exhibition of new and significant artworks, recognising the extraordinary successes our artists have achieved over the past year.
Within Sabbia’s dedicated exhibition schedule, most of our artists present new bodies of work in solo exhibitions every two to three years. In the periods between, these leading Australian artists engage in international and domestic residencies, major commissions, teaching opportunities, and participation in prestigious awards. These experiences are essential to their practices, offering time to refine their skills, evolve their work, and collaborate with other professional artists globally.
Over the past eighteen months, several Sabbia artists have had their works acquired by prominent Australian public collections, including the Art Gallery of New South Wales, Art Gallery of Ballarat, Curtin University Gallery, Powerhouse, Canberra Museum and Art Gallery, and the National Gallery of Australia. These acquisitions foster a vital dialogue between artists, institutions, and audiences, while also establishing an important provenance for future generations.
Throughout the calendar year, a range of awards and prizes also provide opportunities for artists to define and showcase their practices to broader audiences. These platforms often serve as catalysts for recognition by public institutions and the wider arts community, while offering artists the chance for reflection and growth.
In addition, many of our artists contribute to the wider creative sector through roles as technical assistants in international demonstrations, keynote speakers at conferences, and educators in tertiary institutions. These diverse professional experiences inform and strengthen their ongoing practice, forming the foundation for future bodies of work.
We are proud to present this exhibition as a celebration of the rich, varied, and accomplished professional lives of our artists, and to honour the remarkable achievements they have made in recent times.
