Hot mugs of tea, hearty soups and afternoons by the fire evoke feelings of winter warmth, and bring up childhood memories of our experience of the colder months. For some Australians, childhood winters meant ice, snow and sleet, and trudging to the school gate in boots & mittens. For most of us in this sunburnt country, mild winters meant an extra blanket on the bed or warm milk on our cereal.
Whatever our experience, winter time creates a feeling of self-reflection, of homely comforts, catching up with friends and long warm lunches. Sabbia’s artists have been asked to reflect on what winter
means to them, and create an artwork that explores this theme within their own practice, utilizing their extraordinary skills with their chosen material.
