Tjunkaya Tapaya OAM – Named Jamfactory 2026 ICON

JamFactory’s annual ICON exhibition series celebrates South Australia’s most influential visual artists working in craft-based media. Sabbia is proud to share that Senior Anangu Elder and esteemed gallery artist Tjunkaya Tapaya OAM has been selected as the JamFactory 2026 ICON.

A highly respected ceramicist, painter, and weaver, Tapaya is recognised as one of the most prominent female artists working on the Anangu Pitjantjatjara Yankunytjatjara (APY) Lands. The exhibition will be curated by fellow Pitjantjatjara artist Anne Thompson, Chair of the Ernabella Arts Board, with support from JamFactory and Ernabella Arts staff. Accompanied by a monograph exploring Tapaya’s life, practice, and work, the exhibition will launch in Adelaide in August 2026 before touring nationally.

Sabbia is honoured to announce Tjunkaya’s major solo exhibition at the gallery in September 2026. Her extraordinary artistry and enduring cultural leadership continue to inspire, and we are thrilled to share her work with audiences across Australia and beyond.

Sabbia is currently holding works by Tjunkaya in our stockroom. Contact the gallery for details.
