Sabbia is pleased to announce that it will be exhibiting as part of Melbourne Art Fair at the Melbourne Convention & Exhibition Centre from 20 – 23 February 2025. This is the first time Sabbia will be presenting at this major art event.
Sabbia will be presenting the exhibition ‘Remembered Landscapes’, new artworks by Pippin Drysdale and Kirstie Rea, two of Australia’s premier artists in the fields of international contemporary ceramic and glass art.
This exhibition celebrates the beauty of the Australian landscape and our own unique relationships and abstracted memories within it. The sheer enjoyment of losing oneself within each remembered landscape is what unifies Drysdale and Rea. Masters of their material, their sculptural installations will immerse each viewer.
Kirstie says: Underlying my studio work lies a desire to seek an understanding of our often-tenuous connections to place contrasted by the familiarity and firm connections to my garden-scape.
These works in glass abstract the awe and surprise that is found in nature, things that delight and offer us a sense of wonder. I often walk in distant spaces, beyond the urban, seeking solitude and distance from the everyday, photography and field writing record times spent in these places. Together with the experience of the everyday of her garden, these times and places inspire and inform the studio making.
Drysdale also draws on assimilated experiences of place. Topography, changing light and flora and fauna give rise to her abstract interpretations, many echoing the ‘vastness’ of place while others explore the ‘smallness’ of things. Memories are key and they run deep. It is the translation of the intuitive response she has to her surroundings and her experiences that makes her work so compelling.
